SOS Malta Award for Volunteering - 2008

Posted Date: 22/08/2008

To recognise the important work carried out by volunteers in all spheres of Maltese society, SOS Malta is privileged to announce the official launch of the SOS Malta Award for Volunteering on Friday, September 19, 2008. Dame Lilian Miceli Farrugia, renowned for her life-long dedication to volunteerism, is the patron of this prestigious award.

This event will be held in affiliation with the organisers of the European Trophy for Voluntary Work – the French Federation of Voluntary Work and Associative Life (FFBA). There are thousands of men, women, and youngsters in Maltese society who, for no material gain, dedicate their own time in the service of others. The SOS Malta Award for Volunteering aims to honour these selfless acts and raise awareness of the essential but underrated contribution that voluntary work makes to our society.

The recipient of the Award will be selected from a pool of nominees by an independent selection board. The SOS Malta Volunteer of the Year will then be invited to participate in a big final held at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on the 5th December 2008, on the occasion of International Volunteer Day. This pan-European competition, under the high patronage of French President Mr Nicolas Sarkozy, will determine the winner of the esteemed European Trophy for Voluntary Work.

Nominations can be made by completing the form available on this website (electronic version click here / print version click here ). The closing date for nominations is the October 15, 2008.

A cast bronze trophy designed voluntarily by the young artist Damian Darmanin will be presented to the recipient of the Award.

Your nominations will help ensure that the volunteers in your community receive the recognition that they deserve.
